- 2011, year of many great games, sandbox, shooters, and rpgs, most well know, such as halo, for shooters, or saints row for sandbox, but none ever so more known than The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the most anticipated game of the year.
Gameplay: The Elder Scrolls V has many compelling features, from the ability to scale any mountain, search any forest, or town, to the beautiful combat scenes, but does have a few gameplay flaws and mechanics that do not seem to work out well, for an example SMALL SPOILER during the escape from Helgan in the beginning of the game, during the talking while a dragon is rampaging, 2 NPCs, one of whom your suppose to be following will stop, and both calmly talk to each other while the dragon kills, and destroys all around you. Or just the slight annoying glitches, where you get stuck in a mission, not knowing what to do, or trapped in some haunted house while some really cool looking effects play, wondering when it will un-glitch, then finally having to reload your last save. Other than that, the free roam is fun, as you find new creatures to brutally kill, things to sell, and places to explore.
Overall for gameplay, I would give it an 8.5 until the glitches are smoothed out
Controls: The controls feel very easy, left trigger for your left hand, right trigger for your right, left bumper for sprint, right for shout/power. The left stick is for moving, clickable for sneak (crouch) and right for look, and switching view from 3rd person to 1st, the directional keys are for your favorites, where as A is activate, B is character menu, X is draw/sheath, and Y is jump. Before finding out about favorites I would give this an 7.5 because it takes forever to press b and search the menus for what you need, after learning favorites, I would bump it up to an even 9 because sometimes the keys are still a little confusing (but that’s just me)
Plot: SPOILERS after waking up on a prisoner cart with 3 others, you arrive in Helgan, where you are condemned for being a rebel, and sentenced to death with your fellow prisoners. Proceeding the execution of the first prisoner, its your turn on the chopping block, when suddenly, someone yells, and a sudden crash of something huge, looking up to the executioners head, you see perched on the tower a very pissed off dragon, who rains hell down upon the town, while you try to escape with your fellow prisoners, then a while after getting out, you discover that you are the dragon born, then, the story unfolds from there…
The solid story is the typical heroism story. 7
Voice acting and writing: Well, here it is, from the same studios that brought you so many internet memes such as “Patrolling the Mojave almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter” brings you a new repeated line, making you realize that EVERY guard in the game is a complete moron, and that you should probably invest in some better knee armour, and protect your sweetrolls. “I used to be an adventurer like you, until I took an arrow to the knee” has been said by every guard patrolling, making me get somewhat annoyed, the voice acting however all sounds similar, keeping in mind though that it is all one region of the world.5, take away points for every arrow to the knee you hear after reading this.
Co-op: Not available at the current time, maybe in the future they will be able to release some DLC for it, but as for now its just a 1 player game.
Over all rating stands at a highly addicting 8.5 for fun gameplay, good story, amazing graphics, and those silly little glitches
